Northern Bangladesh facing water scarcity greatly; people gradually becoming impatient

In south- eastern parts of Bangladesh, the monsoon rain pouring is going to stop, but the scenario of acute drought in northern areas is continuing. The farmers are facing great problems in farming serial corns in those parts. When floods have damaged paddy and other crops on over 39,102 hectares of land in 34 districts this year, plunging thousands of farmers into abject misery. Heavy monsoon rains started in mid June, causing serious flooding in 34 districts of the country. The deluge affected farmers to a great extent. Crops like aman and aush paddy, their seedlings and many varieties of vegetables were damaged in the flooding. The worst flood-hit districts are Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Noakhali and Comilla. Hamidur Rahman, Director-General of Department of Agricultural Extension, said that the damage to crops was reduced to taking early steps and crop diversification. On the other hand, Dr. Inun Nishat, a water expert said due to climate change complicacies the vast areas of northern Bangladesh are drying and the area gradually loses the fertility to the soil. People are by this time, fall into scarcity of water. As water is needed to cultivate aman and aus paddy,the farmers are not able to cultivate the lands due to want of water in these areas. It affects the Agro economic situation to the people of these areas. And mass people are becoming angry with the government. Angry people are hungry people; therefore all the people come forward to do something in line of solving the problem. Experts said, the International community should come forward to solve the problem permanently by stopping climate change. The industrialist countries each day are engaged to dump wastage to the waters into Atlantic and Pacific oceans that causes the climate change hazards.
